I’m writing to you again because I can’t seem to think about writing anymore without thinking about your words.

Poetry is not a luxury

you said, and as I ride the Blue Line, scribbling in my notebook, I understand all the more how important poetry as a means of expression for the marginalized. Poetry can be done in small bursts, can happen anywhere, in a way that an essay or novel cannot. It reminds me that it is important allow ourselves those scraps of verse.
