I throw the thin fiberglass board
onto the retreating water,
chase it along the shore
and step onto it,
swinging my body around
knees bent, hips loose
riding over the sand,
invincible for a moment.
I cast myself into the
uncertain power of the ocean,
gliding spectacularly in the beginning
only to fizzle out in the end
unable to harness the
power of the shorebreak properly.
I fear this is how it will always be.
Wow, I really like this piece. You’re very descriptive… I can imagine myself skimboarding at the beach. And I like how you so simply apply the act of skimboarding to something greater to think about…
