statement of purpose

I write poetry
as prophecy
of the world
I want our children to see:

not the rose-colored
day-glo world
where we are all
holding hands, singing, and
everyone has all the
Coke they can drink,

no exploitative
marketing strategies
hiding behind
utopian fantasies.

I write poetry
as prophecy
of the world
I want our children to see:

a world
where art is not
extracurricular,
where love is not
bound by legislation,
where profit is not
privileged over compassion,

and our children will know
that our hands have the power
not only to write our dreams
but to make them reality.

you put my hopeful thoughts into words.
