a broken phone screen

what having a broken phone screen has taught me:
that i have spent too much time
waiting to be asked if i am needed
that to be supportive is to ask first
to be there first, to reach out
whether or not i am asked
that waiting to be asked
means i am waiting for catastrophe to arrive
instead of being there to stop it
