poems about you
veiled or obvious
might be
cast into the world
perhaps
if they’re good enough
someone will take the words
and give them to someone else
i like to think that
you would inspired me
to write poetry that good
so good and so true
that strangers paste
them to their lips
the way that i’ve
torn verse from pablo
and adrienne
and affixed it to
my own longing
if we love
maybe i’ll write
poems about you
that i think
no one will never
see, in the pages
of a notebook
that gets lost
in an unfamiliar city
if we love
our story
will echo
in everything
i ever write
and it might
hurt and
it might
make me smile
and i will
be thankful.
