alternate realities

i am certain
that there are
multifaceted
alternate realities
out there unfolding

different pairs of
hearts entangled at
different points in time

different chances being
taken, different risks
with different lips

i fantasize about slipping
just for a moment
into those other incarnations
to wear a different jacket
a different hat
make a different set of
unfortunate though
somewhat glorious mistakes
to play out other
story lines and plot twists
to see what might happen
if this quiet imagining
happened beyond the
privacy of paper
