to build

having
stepped far away
from strong foundations

for little reason
other than
to try

(though that
is itself not so little
a reason–

that desire to
see what other
structures might
be waiting for
another willing spine

to venture forth
and offer yours)

to bend toward
the unfamiliar

to create cobblestone
pathways to walk upon
with toothsome smiles

pulling with us
those who
already hold us close
whose arms can
certainly
stretch a little
farther

the journey
has never been
about breaking ties

it has been
about paving roads

and here i am

finding
hearts which seem
meant to join,

faces meant
to call one another
home.
