i am a sprinter
learning how
to run a marathon
accustomed to
sudden, all-out
bursts which
extinguish
all too quickly,
i am practicing
patience, breathing
evenly even as my
heart quickens
moving slowly
knowing there are
many miles more
i wish to go.
