we think that it is progress
to no longer live as
subsistence farmers
or hunter-gatherers

with all our
technology, our
increased productivity,
our prized convenience
and efficiency

we are subsistence workers
laboring for slivers of
perceived luxury and leisure

spending long hours
studying the movement
of wealth and economy

unable to actualize a world
where we do not exploit one another

and this
is somehow better

yes,
indeed,
it is,
for a few.
