writing space

i love a room with
big, open windows

i can look at the sky
at passing birds

i can observe the speed
at which clouds gather
and float past

but my writing table
must be turned
so that it faces
the wall

so that when i
take a moment to
think, my eyes
do not carry me off

it is good
to have a big window
in the room

as long as it is
off to side

else the only thing
i get done
when i sit down to write
is looking
