we are from different homelands,
members of multiple diaspora–
home, heart, ancestry

we search for
nourishment
in old places
and new

resign ourselves
to the reality
that we will always
have certain
hollows in our
bellies or our hearts
for the sake
of filling certain needs.

we celebrate that however
our tides may change,
we find ways
to ride the waves
toward one another,

and when we share space
and time– however small,
however brief– when we meet
to laugh about the hurt,
to embrace one another’s strength,
to plan our future healing,

we create home,
we remember
we belong.
